Grasshopper

Grasshoppers are amazing creatures. There are many facts to know about grasshoppers. So if you would like to learn more about them please read on and you will be loaded with facts of fun and of importance.

The grasshopper is a unique looking insect. The 4 most simple body parts on a grasshopper are the abdomen, thorax, head and the antennae. There are a couple more like the jaw, palps, compound eye, walking legs, long jumping legs, spiracles, and the wings. As most of you know most grasshoppers that live around here are a beautiful bright green color so that they can blend in with the grass. Now that you know what a grasshoppers color is and what there body parts are you can see one for yourself.

The grasshopper has a cool habitat. Some grasshoppers live in tropical rainforest. Others live in or by different kinds of plants. The reason they live by these plants is so they can eat. You will usually find grasshoppers by moist plants so that they have water. The grasshopper can be found in local areas so you could find one in Rochester. The grasshopper lives in simple places and one place is right near here.

The way a grasshopper lives is not an easy place to live. A grasshopper has many predators so I can’t list them all but I will list a couple the snake, frogs, fox, coyotes and even skunks. One way a grasshopper defends itself is it spits a black liquid called tobacco juice. The grasshopper is to small so the juice doesn’t affect many of its predators. One thing that grasshoppers eat to survive is plants. The only thing the grasshopper drinks is water. There is much more to know about how a grasshopper survives so I hope you check it out.

A grasshopper has a three stage metamorphosis an incomplete metamorphosis is the real name. The grasshoppers first stage is the egg the mothereach time laids  20 to 100 eggs.  The egg stage is simple.  It is the stage where the grasshopper is saved until it is ready to hatch. The next stage is the nymph.  The nymph looks exactly like the adult parent. The final stage is the adult. When the grasshopper is an adult it can go on and live on its own. It feeds itself and when it is ready it will go off and have babies and if and when it does the life cycle will start all over again. You know all the stages of a grasshopper so maybe you can try an experiment and see the stages it goes threw.

Can you believe how amazing and interesting a grasshopper can be? The grasshopper is an incredible insect to learn about. It would be amazing to see how a grasshopper would act if someone really tried to observe it. A grasshopper is an extraordinary insect so I encourage you to try learning more facts about them.
