Monarch Butterfly

 

 

      Monarch Butterflies are amazing creatures. They are very colorful. It is very fun to research this awesome bug.  You wont believe how much there is to learn about the Monarch butterfly.

     Monarch Butterflies are very colorful and unique creatures.  Monarch Butterflies are orange and brown with black veins with white dots.  There wing span is about 4 inches wide .The Monarch has three body parts the head the thorax and the abdomen . They also have six jointed legs, an exoskeleton and a long proboscis which is a long tube like tongue that sucks up nectar. I hope you now know what they look like so you can find them too.

     Monarch Butterflies live in a very beautiful habitat. You would probably find them in tropical areas because they love sunlight and humidity. You would also find them in fields and meadows or open areas.  Now you should know were to find this beautiful insect.

     Have you ever wondered how Monarchs survive? The Monarch eats Milk weed which is poisonous to other insects. It also makes them taste bad so other prey wont eat them. To fly away from predators it will avoid the rain and hide under the opposite side of a leaf.  Please do not harm them so they wont go to extinction.                                                    

     These butterflies have a very magnificent life cycle. All butterflies have a complete metamorphosis.  But Monarchs seem to have the most interesting ones .When it becomes an adult it will lay about 300 eggs. The eggs are the first stage. Then it will hatch into a larvae go into a pupa and emerge into a adult.  I hope you found it as interesting as I did.

The monarch butterfly has so many amazing physical features! The monarch butterfly’s wings span is 9-10 cm long. The monarch got its name from its amazing journeys. The monarch is one of the most recognized butterflies in New York State. The monarch butterfly is an amazing insect

Do you know where monarch lives in the summer and winter? In the spring and summer the monarch lives in fields of milk weed. In the winter they live on the coast of California and central Mexico. They travel great distances because they prefer worm climates. No you know where they live during every season.

Do you know why monarchs aren’t eaten by animals? I’ll tell you why .The milk weed plant makes the monarchs poisonous to other animals or can make them very sick. So most of them are left alone. Their preterits are birds and other animals. How’d know that milk weed is poisonous.

The monarch has a complete metamorphosis. They start as an egg hatches into a larva. Next the larva goes into a pupa and comes out as an adult butterfly. A compete metamorphosis has four stages. Next time you see a little rock stuck to a leaf don’t pluck it off. Some day it might be a monarch butterfly.

Now that you know where to spot a monarch maybe you will find one in your own back yard. They truly are amazing insects!

          Have you seen Monarch Butterflies in your back yard? There is so much to know about them. They are very unique insects. You never know when you might see one fly past your house.

The physical features of the monarch butterfly are quite unique. The colors of a monarch butterfly are black, red, white and light orange. A Monarch’s outstretched wings are five inches across. The parts of a Monarch are the head, proboscis, thorax, legs, abdomen, wings and scales. The antenna is for touch and smell. The proboscis sucks up nectar. The interesting facts about the Monarchs physical features are end less.

The wonderful habitat of Monarchs can be any where depending on the weather. Monarch need milk weed to lay there eggs on. So they will live almost anywhere where the weather is warm and milk weed grows. At night they cluster on trees. They live in open fields and meadows with milk weed. In the winter they are found on the coast of southern California and in central Mexico to escape cold weather. The habitat of a Monarch butterfly changes a lot.

The Monarch butterflies survival is a cool thing. The milk weed that they eat when they hatch makes them poisonous and their color tells animals not to eat them. Birds are their main enemy the toxins that Monarchs have makes birds vomit when they try to eat then. That’s the way the Monarch survives.

The Monarchs goes through a complete metamorphosis. The Monarch lays an egg about the size of a small dot. In a few days the egg hathes out crawls a small caterpillar also called larva. The caterpillar eats and grows for two weeks. Next the caterpillar goes into a chrysalis or pupa and in about two weeks later the adult butterfly comes out. Then the butterfly lays an egg and on and on it goes. The life cycle of a Monarch is unique.
