Spider monkeys are black, brown, golden or tan. They can grow to 14 to 26 inches and 35 to 66 cm. tall. They are good climbers. Spider monkeys tails are like their fifth leg. Their face is all black except for their eyes. They have white stripes along their cheeks. They have long arms and legs but small bodies.
They live in the South America and Mexican Rainforests. Spider monkeys live in the canopy in large groups. They are in large groups during the day but they get in smaller groups at night. In the morning they get in the same place they were in the day before.
They eat fruits, seeds, and they also eat plants. Spider monkeys favorite food to eat is the bananas.
Spider monkeys have babies born alive. It cares for its young by keeping it by its side and being close all the time.
It protects itself by going to the nest to get the rest of the group and warns them so the spider monkeys can put the little monkeys in the tree.
Alligators, hunters and most importantly humans are spider monkeys enemies. They are becoming extinct because hunters hunt them for food to eat. So there is not many left any more. Spider monkeys often spend their time in the canopy were they find the foods they eat.
