Inuits use kayaks, umiaks, snowshoes and dog sleds for their transportation.  During the winter you can hardly travel because the water is usually frozen. A kayak is a boat that only one person can ride in.  The boat is used mostly for hunting.  It is small and is covered in seal skin.  The boat's paddle is a long stick.  The stick has a paddle on each end of it.  The umiak is a large boat and is more open than the kayaks.  It is also covered in skin.  It was built to carry large loads and people.  The umiak is very light and two men can carry it.  The best known object for transporation was the dogsled.  The dogsled has a sturdy frame on runners with reins.  The reins are hooked up to as many as six huskies.  They also use snowshoes like rackets to help Inuits walk through the snow.  The snowshoes allow the Inuits to stay above the snow without sinking in.

The unit also may use atvs.  Expenditioners often come in motorized boats.
